All you need to know about the Jal Mahal Jaipur

One of the most majestic places to visit in Jaipur is Jal Mahal, often known as the Water Palace. The city is littered with amazing architectural wonders and Jal Mahal sits at the top of this list. The palace, which is situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, will initially give you the impression that it is nearly floating on the lake and that is the time when this sight will make you feel mesmerized.

The palace is not too high and has four dome-shaped pillars at four corners with a big one in the center. Jal Mahal was once the shooting lodging for the Maharaja of Jaipur and is now one of the landmarks of Jaipur.

History: Though the precise date of construction of Jal Mahal is unknown, folklore claims that it was erected in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh to use it as a hunting lodge for his duck shooting excursions rather than a palace to reside in. He is also responsible for the creation of the lake, which was created as a result of the building of a dam between two hills.

Another legend says that it was built by Maharaja Madho Singh in the 1750s to serve as a hunting lodge. His son Madho Singh II had a big role to play in enhancing the interiors of Jal Mahal during the 18th century when he added the courtyard grounds which are still a part of this palace.

Things to do at Jal Mahal, Jaipur: It doesn't take more than an hour to see Jal Mahal from the banks of Sagar Lake because an ordinary tourist isn't allowed to get there and access is restricted. When the palace was available to visitors, gondolas transported people across the lake to the building, allowing them the option to take a romantic journey through the lake. Photography, savoring the moment, street shopping, camel rides, bird watching, and visiting statues near Jal Mahal are some of the popular things to do at Jal Mahal.

Location: On the main Jaipur-Amer route, the palace is situated 4 km north of Jaipur's central city. Most visitors include a trip to the 8 km away Amer Fort in their schedule for the palace, which is equally popular with photographers. The National Highway No. 8 connecting Jaipur to Delhi and Mumbai can be used to reach Jal Mahal. The distance from Delhi is 273 km. All major cities and nations have flights to the Jaipur International Airport.

Best time to visit: The best time to visit Jaipur and view attractions like Jal Mahal, which require you to stay outside, is from October to March when the temperatures plummet.

Timings and Entry fees: Since entry to Jal Mahal itself has been stopped by the Government, you will not be able to visit the actual palace itself. However, a pathway around Man Sagar Lake allows tourists to view the Jal Mahal. There is no entry fee and you can visit it during the day from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
