Hidimba Temple - 27 KM

Located amidst the snow-covered hills of Manali, the Hadimba Temple is a unique shrine dedicated to Hidimba Devi, who was the wife of Bhima and the mother of Ghatothkach. Surrounded by gorgeous cedar forests, this beautiful shrine is built on a rock which is believed to be in the image of goddess Hidimba herself. The construction style of the Hidimba Devi temple is entirely different from that of any of the other temples, with its wooden doorways, walls, and cone-shaped roof. This temple is a fitting dedication to its presiding deity Hadimba. Hidimba Devi Temple holds monumental importance to Hindu pilgrims as it is a part of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.

The pass is around 51 km from Manali and serves as the gateway to Lahaul and Spiti valleys. Enveloped by the Pir Panjal Mountain Range of the Himalayas, this high-altitude mountain pass is known for its matchless natural beauty. It is also known for its strategic importance for the country. A drive on Rohtang Pass offers wonderful views of surrounding peaks, glaciers, Chandra River, and Lahaul Valley, along with twin peaks of Geypan. Rohtang Pass is open between June and October as during the remaining months, it is covered with snow, making it inaccessible. During the peak season, the pass is jam-packed, and thus to avoid delay, one must leave quite early.

Made of stone and wood, this palace served as the residence of Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu. It was built in AD 1460 in an impressive amalgamation of European and Himalayan architecture. Fireplaces, fitting staircases, and magnificent stone and wood works grace the castle's interiors. There are three small shrines within the premises, each holding immense religious importance. For art lovers, Naggar Castle has incredible art pieces on display. Worth-mentioning is the paintings of Nicholas Roerich- the famous Russian painter.

Nicholas Roerich was the Russian writer, public figure, painter, philosopher, theosophist and popular youth figure. He was very much interested in paintings and spiritual activities to express his hypnotic expression. He was also best for organising dramas, set for ballets and coutumes. He was born in 1874 in the Russia of Saint Petersburg, he was popular public figure. Till death, he lived at many places from Russia to Naggar in the Himachal Pradesh. In Naggar, he also died as he spent his maximum old time in Himachal Pradesh. Nicholas was best artist with his main interest in the literature, philosophy and archaeology. He also preserved many art pieces which was of war times. Many prizes were given to him, he was also awarded by the Nobel Peace Prize.

Manikaran

Manikaran

Located at the banks of river Parvati in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh, Manikaran is known as a famous pilgrimage destination for both Sikhs and Hindus. A good number of temples, Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib and hot springs attract pilgrims and tourists alike.

There are three hot springs where one can take a bath, one being inside the Gurudwara itself and the other two being privatised by the guesthouses. Different sections for men and women are made at the bathing place. The water in these springs contains sulphur which is capable of curing diseases. The water is hot enough to prepare food by directly placing the vessels and is served as langar.
